Comedy at Villa Mirra: "Cielo, mia moglie!"

07/23/2026

The video report documents the evening of 23 July 2026 at Villa Mirra, which saw the El Vultù theatre company perform the dialect comedy *Cielo, mia moglie*.
The event took place in the upper garden of the historic Gonzaga residence in Cavriana, the festival’s traditional summer venue. The performance forms part of the theatre company’s programme aimed at promoting theatrical culture, the local dialect and local traditions, attracting an audience from both Cavriana and the neighbouring areas of Mantua and the Morainic Amphitheatre of Lake Garda.

Joseph Caiola - Actor - El Vultu theatre company
Our aim is to take dialect plays on tour, as well as Italian plays, and to run programmes with schools and the elderly; so we’re dedicated to all aspects of theatre culture in our town, thereby promoting our local area and our traditions. Cavriana probably needed this return to theatrical tradition; in fact, when we started out, the theatre company really took off straight away, so it’s a pleasure to always be here in Cavriana telling our stories – which are essentially village stories, village adventures.

We’re here in the grounds of Villa Mirra, one of the most beautiful gems of the Mantua area, which always welcomes us with such splendour.
The audience isn’t just from Cavriana; people also come from further afield, not only to watch our performances but also to admire the beauty of this cool, refreshing spot. It’s no coincidence that the Gonzagas used to spend their summers here to find the coolness they couldn’t find in Mantua, so it’s also a pleasure to discover a climate better suited to these performances.

Matteo Guardini - Mayor - Municipality of Cavriana
We’re here for the theatre festival organised by the El Vultù theatre company; it’s a traditional summer event in Cavriana that helps keep the tradition of our dialect alive, so it’s a wonderful thing.
This year, like last year, we’re in the upper garden – it’s a bit of a secret garden, a private garden within the Gonzaga villa.

In this region – the Lake Garda area, to which Cavriana belongs as part of the Garda community – Bardolino is standing as a candidate for the title of Italian Capital of Culture, and Cavriana has already expressed its support for this bid so that it becomes a collective bid, a bid from a region that has so much to offer not only on the lake but also inland, and I believe Cavriana is the best example of this.
