During the 17th century, the parish church underwent a number of Baroque alterations. In the 1950s, the building was the subject of a major conservation project: this work made it possible both to repair the serious damage sustained during the Second World War and to ‘free’ the structure from its 17th-century additions, restoring the parish church to its authentic original Romanesque form.
Today, the parish church is surrounded by a peaceful, tree-lined garden, a true ‘place of remembrance’ where commemorative steles dedicated to the Risorgimento battles fought on these hills are situated.
